Therapeutic Yoga & Mindfulness

Research has demonstrated that the ancient holistic practice of yoga can be an effective method to manage and reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. A regular yoga practice not only facilitates endurance, strength, and flexibility, but also promotes characteristics of friendliness, compassion, and increased self-control, while cultivating a sense of calmness and well-being (McCall, 2007).

A sense of balance and union between the mind and body can be achieved as the practice of yoga produces a physiological state opposite to that of the flight-or-fight stress response (Arora & Bhattacharjee, 2008).

Changes in life perspective, self-awareness, and an improved sense of energy to live life fully and with genuine enjoyment are all positive outcomes of a sustained practice.

(Desikachar et al., 2005).

Approaches

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of traumatic life experiences.  Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference.

The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward health and well-being.  If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound may fester and can cause intense suffering in the present.  Once the block is removed, healing resumes.  Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training, I help clients activate their natural healing process to move forward in life with confidence.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that has been shown to be helpful in treating anxiety and depression. It focuses on understanding and modifying limiting beliefs. Editing out those limiting, unhelpful messages about yourself, your abilities, your relationships, and your world, such as the “I can’t…”, “I have to…”, or “I should…” enhance confidence and self-esteem.

Together, we address limiting negative thought patterns that may be keeping you stuck from achieving your future goals and aspirations in life. By tapping into your inner critic, you learn to take risks and experience life in new ways.
